October 23 – Parish Mission: Serving Hungry Children in Haiti (Fr Joseph Constant)
The Diocese of Haiti is the largest diocese of the Episcopal Church, with around 90,000 members. Our brothers and sisters in Haiti are in crisis, and need our prayers and support: 3 million Haitian children are in need of food assistance, and are being forced to join armed gangs for food. The Haitian economy is in crisis, with inflation at 30%.
Our presenter will be Fr Joseph Constant, a priest of our diocese born in Haiti, and founder of Haiti Micah Project. Fr Constant will speak about food insecurity for children in Haiti, and we will consider how our parish can best practically support this mission, remembering that our vocation specifically as Anglo Catholics is rooted in the Gospel imperative to feed the hungry. This will build on good work already started by vestry member Karen Wires to draw together local Episcopalians who feel called to support the people and Episcopalians of Haiti.
Dinner will have a Haitian theme; we expect to be joined by some friends from local parishes also interested in this ministry.
October 30 – Things That Go Bump In The Night: The Bible & Halloween (Fr Richard Wall)
We all love Halloween, and these colourful ways of skirting around those things we shall neither know nor understand, at least in this life. Are poltergeists real? Do the dead return to life? Is there a place for ghosts in Christian thought? And what on earth does the Bible say of those things that are not of this earth?
November 6 – Deification and the Church Fathers (Dr Mark James)
November 13 – Frances Perkins: The Cabinet Secretary on our Church Calendar (Fr Charles Hoffacker)
Each session stands alone; please feel free to arrive whenever works best for your schedule.
