Mission Statement

We seek to restore all people to God and to each other through sacramental worship and Christ-like living.

From our earliest days, we have valued and practiced diversity and welcome. In the nineteenth century St Paul’s was founded as a free church: a church that did not restrict itself to wealth or privilege by demanding pews be rented. From that day to this, St Paul’s has been a home for all people, regardless of age, gender, sexuality, race, or circumstances of life. We believe Christ calls His followers to be people of inclusivity and openness.

See all this brought to life on a typical Sunday morning. Our worshippers come from all kinds of political, social, religious, and economic backgrounds; military, civilians, students, federal workers, lawyers, with every political persuasion possible. We unite as one body in Jesus, joining in the worship and mission of the church, and in the fellowship and relationships this unity offers we find community and support for the rest of our lives.

Our Customs

Our worship and music embrace all our senses, our emotion, and our energy. We sit, kneel, stand, and genuflect. We chant, sing, speak, and listen. We might cross our bodies, hearts, and mouths. We gladly receive the opportunities for silence and tranquility that our worship brings. Above all we listen, pray, and adore.

Nothing is mandatory or compulsory. We each participate as we each wish, how and when we each feel called. There is no right or wrong. Together, in our worship, we learn to adore and to glimpse a world bigger and greater and more beautiful than seems possible.

This worship is best understood by being experienced. Feel free to ask a priest or usher any question you wish. Formation courses are regularly offered, many designed to introduce newcomers both to our church and to these ancient traditions.
