A note from Michael:
"Hello from Michael Drell. I am very grateful to be approaching my ordination to the priesthood at St. Paul’s on July 16th, the Feast of Our Lady of Mt Carmel.
I graduated from Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, CA and was ordained to the transitional diaconate by Bishop Mariann, on the 10th of January this year.
This is the first time I’ve lived in DC since the early 1990s, but I was born here five decades ago at Georgetown University Hospital. Since graduating from St Albans, here, I’ve been overseas, mostly in the UK and Australia, but also considerable time in Italy, Spain, New Zealand, and Mexico. I’ve moved back to DC with my partner, Chris, and our dog, Rocco. While serving as a deacon at the Church of the Ascension & St Agnes, I have also been pursuing Chaplaincy training and based at Sibley Memorial Hospital.
I am thrilled to be serving as curate in your parish for two years from the beginning of October. I’m particularly passionate about Agrarian Theology and the intersection of food and faith. My favorite theologians are the late John Hughes (Cambridge) and Norman Wirzba and Ellen Davis (Duke). Before seminary, I spent a decade working with horses and always keen to connect with other horse people if there are any around?
I look forward to learning and serving among you. Thank you for blessing me with such a warm welcome, already!"
